Who was it that had been the only man to win three consecutive Royal Rumbles? Who was the first referee to become a wrestler? What is the name of the man who created the famous chant, “What?” It is Steve Austin, a professional wrestler in WWE. McMahon among others, has called Austin the greatest WWF/WWE star and stated that Austin surpasses Hulk Hogan. Steve Austin held the title 19 times during his wrestling career. He is a six time WWF Champion, two time Intercontinental champion and four-time Tag Team Champion. That makes him the fifth Triple Crown Champion. Steve Austin (or Steven James Anderson) was born in Austin on December 18, 1964. He was one of five children. His childhood was spent in Edna Texas. His father had died and his mother had remarried. Steve changed his last name to Austin. Austin’s athletic skills at school made him eligible for a free high school education. Austin wanted to be a wrestler but had given up and decided to give up.

Austin had left USWA by 1990. He had signed with WCW in the following year. Bobby Eaton won his first WCW World television Championship. Austin was later a member of Paul E’s Dangerously Dangerous Alliance. Austin and Brian Pillman formed their own tag team in January 1993. The WCW World Tag team Championship was won by them that year, beating Ricky Steamboat & Shane Douglas. Austin was fired from WCW in 1995 after sustaining a triceps injury. In late 1995, Austin joined WWF when Jim Ross and Diesel convinced Vince McMahon that he should be hired. Austin had made his debut on Raw’s January 8, 1996 version. He defeated Matt Hardy and was then forced to defend his title once more. Austin refused his title defense and gave up. Austin stated that he didn’t care much about titles and that he was aiming for Heavyweight Champion. Austin was then run over by a vehicle and left out of the action in 1999 due to spinal surgery. Austin was able to return to wrestling during Backlash 2000. Austin helped the Rock to win his fourth WWF Championship from Triple H. But Austin’s fight against Rikishi in October 2000 was called off after Austin attempted to run Rikishi into the corner. Austin was then arrested.

Austin was unstoppable in 2001. Austin won 2001’s Royal Rumble and became the only three-time Royal Rumble champion. Austin then defeated the Rock in April 2001 to win his fifth WWF crown. Austin was the champion for a long time. He had won the 2001 Royal Rumble and became the only three-time winner of the Royal Rumble. In April 2001, Austin defeated the Rock to earn his fifth WWF title. Fair faced Austin during a 2-on-1 Handicap on Judgement Day 2002. Austin would lose that match and he was absent from RAW’s June tapings. Steve Austin hasn’t been seen fighting since 2003, when he suffered neck and knee injuries. Austin announced his retirement from wrestling on Raw’s January 12, 2009. Steve Austin is now an actor and producer. He has appeared in numerous movies.
