The Middle School Of Pacolet: The Most Unfortunate Day Of My Experience There

Mr. Wilson’s absence was the worst day of my field experience at Middle School. Mr. Wilson is a type of person who rarely misses work, so it was important for something to happen to make him absent. It was a normal day. But then, something went wrong. The class began as normal. The substitute took attendance and explained the purpose of the day. The writing prompt was the assignment for that day. It took the students a while to settle down. However, once they were allowed to listen to music while working, everyone became quiet. The class remained quiet for the majority of the period. However, one student turned up his music to make it louder. As you would expect, a second student asked him to turn down his music. Instead of complying with the request, he decided to get angry and asked, “Are they going to make me do it?”

The student in question said “No” but the girl continued to ask the same question. He didn’t respond so they returned back to their work. The sub watched all the while. Another student then turned the music up, which I assume was to annoy her, and he was asked to turn it down. He didn’t question the girl, but he did ask the guy. Then the boy was speaking to a friend. She assumed the two were talking to her. And the guy replied, “WILL-YOU-TURN-YOUR-MUSIC-DOWN?”

She again asked, “Are they going to force me to?” I looked at him, expecting him not to do anything. The girl continued her work while the boy tried to ignore the music. The girl’s behavior that day shocked me greatly. I had never before heard her speak. This was the most horrible field experience I ever had.
