Loyalty refers to an unwavering support or loyalty. The Merchant of Venice, William Shakespeare’s play, demonstrates the true meaning of loyalty through dependability and integrity. Each of the traits above demonstrates loyalty to a person, group, and company. These characters are showing loyalty to one another. Loyalty implies that you are loyal to someone and will always be there for them.
You can show dependability by keeping your promises and helping someone you care about. Antonio and Bassanio have a mutual trust and are there for one another. Antonio asks Shylock to lend money to Bassanio. “If thou wouldst lend this amount, don’t assassinate thy friends. When did friendship become the barren metal of a friend?” Bassanio returns Antonio’s help by asking Portia, his wife, to break the Shylock bond. “The quality and mercy of mercy are not strained. It falls as gentle rain from heaven on the ground. It is twice blessing: It blesseth those who give and those who take.” Portia is another reliable character from the Merchant of Venice. Because Bassanio wants that, she shows her reliability by using all her fortunes to destroy Shylock’s bond with Antonio. Portia tried to get Shylock to release Antonio from the bond. Shylock is explained by her that Antonio can bleed if he doesn’t stop bleeding. After Atticus’ trial, Ms. Maudie of To Kill A Mockingbird defends him. She describes Atticus as someone who was “born to do our unpleasant tasks for us.” Shylock of The Merchant of Venice has integrity as he honors the deal he made to Antonio. Shylock refuses to pay anything for the pound. He was offered twice as much and triple that amount. He needs flesh to gratify his vengeance. “The pound I demand of him is dearly purchased. It is mine, and it will be mine.
Honesty refers to telling the truth or explaining facts. Pinocchio should be able to define honesty. To be a real boy, he must show that he is honest and brave. To be a true boy, you must show courage, honesty, and kindness. Pinocchio’s bravery, honesty, and selflessness is demonstrated when he helps Geppetto escape from the ocean. “Are not you afraid of dying?” But I don’t mind dying . Desdemona, another Shakespearean character, understands what honesty means. Othello calls his wife “honest”, because she is loyal in marriage. “I don’t think Desdemona is honest,” I say. Othello threatens Iago for believing Desdemona’s truth.
Faithfulness means being honest and true with someone who is important to you. Portia is faithful to Nerissa because she shares her life with Portia. “Nerissa is close to Portia because they share their flaws with each other.” Shylock is another character in the Merchant of Venice who upholds faithfulness. Shylock, a Jew, has been faithful to his religion and remains true to who he is. Shylock does not believe in Christianity, and is often bullied or abused by others. “I am Jew. Have you ever seen a Jew’s eyes? Hast a Jew eyes, organs and dimensions? Shylock can’t escape the abuse he gets from the people in Venice. But he handles it all.

Loyalty is a commitment to your friend or family member. This means you will be there for them in times of need. Loyalty makes you a loyal friend and a good person. Each character in the story demonstrates how loyalty should be practiced throughout your life.
