Art College Application: My Motivation To Study Visual Arts

As a child, I had an enormous imagination. I was always captivated by the world around me, and my ideas were mostly random cartoons. Drawing gave me an outlet to let those thoughts out onto paper. I wasn’t born with the desire to draw but I found anime as a way to express my thoughts. It was a typical day. I was browsing channels and came across Naruto, a new Cartoon Network series. The show was different than the cartoons I was familiar with, so I initially thought it was strange. The story was serious, there was a lot going on and a lot of fighting. I also liked the character designs. They had long limbs and big eyes.

The first episode hooked me immediately. As I watched more episodes, the animation became much more detailed than western cartoons. I found the characters to be more 3D than just good and bad. The art was stunning. After having watched Naruto for some time, my friends introduced me the Naruto manga. This manga was also the basis of the anime. They were so beautiful and the stories were told through the art. It was then that I discovered manga could really connect with readers visually. Because I was reading manga and watching anime, I felt like I was somewhere else. It was a wonderful experience to see what life would be like if it were full of action, romance, and adventure. Because I was inspired by manga and anime, I decided to start drawing. My art should give people the ability to escape into a fantasy world and achieve the things they dream of.

I feel that the School of Visual Arts is a great place to learn and grow in art, drawing, and animation. I am eager to take on the challenge and start my journey as an artist student. My entire life has been dedicated to drawing. My pencils have been my constant companion throughout my entire life. It is always close by, at my desk, in pockets or in my hand. It’s always there, and I know it. I would like to continue my studies at SVA with a major in animation. I’m open to taking the risks of helping others imagine a world they can create. I am driven and ambitious and feel the thrill of the animation industry. The School of Visual Arts has the opportunity that I want.
